FAQs

  • It is pretty hard to play tennis by yourself. Sometimes you just want someone to hit the ball back over the net. Likewise, it is almost impossible to read your own work critically, to find the holes in your own argument, to polish a sentence you wrote yourself. An editor or collaborator can read your work with a fresh set of eyes and help elevate your book to the next level.

  • Every project is different, and every author’s needs are different. When we figure out what your set of needs are, we will work together to negotiate a price and package that makes sense for you and your book.

  • I always say that finding the right editor is a little bit like going out on a date. Sometimes you sit down across the table from someone and you just fit. The conversation just gets a little smarter, your ideas enhance each other’s, and you make each other laugh. If you can find that in a book editor, sign them up. Your future book will thank you.

  • Nope, I can’t promise you that. Nor can anyone else guarantee that, and if they make you that promise, you should walk the other way. But I can guarantee to work with you to make your book better, to make the process easier, to make you calmer and happier as you work, to help you in a bunch of different ways on your path to getting your book onto bookshelves.

  • This depends on timing, of course, and your needs. Some authors just want a final polish on their already written manuscript; others have a book idea and haven’t written a single word down yet. Most of my clients are somewhere in between these two. I will be honest with you about how much work lies ahead, and we will discuss how long the process is likely to take.
